Ever Think To Yourself "How Do Retractable Awnings Work?"
Many people have retractable awnings outside their homes, but how exactly do they work? This is a simple question that has many components to a thorough answer.
First, retractble awnings are different than fixed awnings because of their ability to extend and retract. This basically means that they can cover your deck, porch, patio, balcony, or other outdoor living area but also have the ability to retract backwards. This is done by a lever system that is similar to how a garage door opens and shuts. The main difference is that an awning becomes more compacted as it retracts while a garage door does not.
Another function to consider when looking at retractable awnings is whether they are manual or motorized. Manual awnings require that you crank a lever that will make it extend outward or retract. There is no electrical component involved with a manual awning. By cranking the lever you make the canopy move to the desired location. These are very simplistic compared to the electrical system required for a motorized awning.
Motorized awnings have the same basic extendable and retractable function that manual ones do, but have an electrical switch instead of a manual lever. The electrical system involved in a motorized awning is ideal for someone who also wants the luxury or controlling the movement of the canopy with a remote control. This allows you to change the location of the canvas from inside your home, outside, or from a distance away from your house.
There are also certain parts of a retractable awning that you should become familiar with if you are considering installing it yourself.
Arm - This is the part the supports the awning canvas from the bottom. This part is important because it it keeps the canvas firm on top and keeps water from pooling on it when it rains.
Front bar - This is the bar the supports the canopy on the front and outer area. The thickness and style of the front bar will depend on the type and the need of the awning.
Fabric - This is also known as the canvas or the canopy. There are many different types of designs such as Italian, Florentine, Bahamian, and Brussels.
Mounting Brackets - This is the part the attaches the entire awning frame to the side of your home.
These parts all work in unison to make a retractable awning work properly.
