Copper Porch Awning

All About Copper Porch Awnings

There are many types of awnings that you can choose to to cover things such as your porch, patio, balcony, deck, window, and more. While aluminum and canvas awnings are very common, there is another kind that is made of copper.

Copper porch awnings serve all the same purposes as others do, which is primarily to shield you and your outdoor furniture from the weather. One of the main pros of having an canopy made of copper is the considerable curb appeal that it adds. Copper awnings have a unique architectural design that are quite different from others. For example, the ranch copper awnings have seams that are raised and some medium decorative appeal.  Others such as victorian and cope cod designs have a much more ornamental decor. Some of the more contemporary designs have rounded features blended with smooth detailing around the edges.

One of the downsides of having a copper awning canopy is that they need a bit more maintainance than a normal one that is made of aluminum or acrylic canvas. It can be treated specifically to maintain its original color with a little bit of extra care. For example, one of the best and most inexpensive ways to clean a copper awning is to use a combination of water and vinegar. This solution is very effective for cleaning purposes that are very cost efficient.

Another cleaning method you can use is to buy a specific solution to clean copper surfaces. This can be a bit more expensive but is a great way to keep it looking new.

More than likely, you will need a company that will install a copper awning for you. Other types of patio canopies that are made of canvas can be bought at a home improvement store and done manually. However, the copper frame will need to be custom built. This can make it a bit more expensive, but the cost can be somewhat offset by the amount of value it can add to a home.

This type of awning is very common to put over a front door or a window than it is to cover a porch. The copper frame is not ideal to make it retractable, so it would be classified as a "fixed" awning. This means that it is not able to extent or retract.

You will likely not find copper framed awnings on thing like an RV or a camper, so if this is what you had in mind then you may want to consider a canvas based canopy instead.

There are a wide variety of awnings available, so be sure to go through all your options before deciding what the right choice may be for you.
